Information
sharing in healthcare delivery and healthcare research is always done
in the context of agreements to collaborate in other ways. Put another
way, information sharing is always a means to an end. The definition
of such collaborations in clinical research is provided in Study
Definition Documents. Promoting a common representation across care
delivery and research would simplify the dissemination of best practice
and the management of such collaborations - including the information
definitions and information governance. The information definitions used in a collaboration can/should be created by reference to external semantic information standards, with the collaboration providing a natural unit for configuration management. This referencing of external specifications by collaborations means that convergence to using common standards can be done over time as it fits in with the business need, rather than being forced by a technology roll-out, or being impacted by changes to the external semantic infromation standards. |
