rsMIFeditor
(Ramsey Systems HL7 Model Interchange Format editor)
This program is a windows based tool for the creation and validation of HL7 MIF files. The tool allows you to take a
predefined MIF file and derive template models from it. Those template models can then be used to create further derivations.

The following files associated with rsMIFeditor are available for download
The example that is released with rsMIFeditor consists of three files. The first, ClinicalStatement_original.mif contains a clinical
statement taken from the UK GP2GP Project. The second, ClinicalStatement_firstDerivation.mif, is a specialised version of the clinical statement RMIM. The different types of statement within the RMIM are
specialised into different flavours. The final file, ClinicalStatement_finalDerivation.mif, is a dataset created from the Draft Users Dataset (DUD), using the flavours of clinical statement previously derived
from the UK GP2GP clinical statement.
The _msi files are zipped up Microsoft Installer files:
- rsMIFeditor_v1_9_1_msi.zip. Reworked the way that references are handled to remove some potentially serious bugs. These should be fixed now:
- When a reference was part of a choice, it was not saving correctly
- 1.9.1: Fixed a problem that prevented some references from being dragged from the parent to the derived MIF
- There was a name spacing issue with derivationSuppliers
- As a result of the above, targetConnections were not being built correctly
- rsMIFeditor_v1_8_1_msi.zip. Added support for Vocab files and CLUE lookups in the form generation. The Vocab file is a plain XML file and an example one is included (DiabetesVocab.xml). To make use of the CLUE lookup, you must first have CLUE installed on your system. It can be downloaded from the CIC website at http://www.clininfo.co.uk/cluecbh/index.htm. The CLUE lookup will be available when there exists a Vocab entry for an element, but where that Vocab entry has children that are not mentioned. For example, if the only Vocab codes for Enthic Background were White, Black the CLUE lookup would be able to provide access to the codes for Irish, Scottish, African, West Indian etc. There must be a code to start from though. Elements that have no vocab code will be displayed on the form as a simple text box.
- rsMIFeditor_v1_7_2_msi.zip. When an element is dragged from the parent to the child, a pop up window will allow you to quickly change any properties that are changable, within the element and its children. There is a text box on the parent window that gives a number (default 100) for the maximum number of displayable properties. If the element and its children have more properties than that, the window will not be displayed. This stops the window popping up when you are dragging large subtrees over. If you set the limit to be 0, the pop-up window is switched off.
- rsMIFeditor_v1_6_2_msi.zip. Warning: This release has not been fully tested and may contain previously unseen bugs. Several modifications:
- Added a Debug option to the menu - this displays hidden information such as derivationSuppliers and annotations etc.
- When you drag across a Class that contains a reference, the reference will now be replaced with an instance of the class referenced. It can still be converted back into a reference by renaming it with an existing class name. This is the most likely cause of new bugs, tread carefully.
- Choice classes can now be replaced by any of their children so if you only have one choice option, it can sit in place of the choice.
- The commit button is now obsolete. If you simply move the focus away from the text box or hidden checkbox, the contents are committed.
- Some minor interface changes: Choices are now listed with CHOICE: next to the name; all of the interface buttons now have hotkeys
- rsMIFeditor_v1_5_msi.zip. Form generation added
- rsMIFeditor_v1_4_msi.zip. Solved some problems with naming MIFs and saving/reopening. Also fixed an issue where items that were referenced couldn't be renamed
- rsMIFeditor_v1_3_msi.zip. Minor bug fixes. Added a new tabbed layout with a second view - HTML. This allows the MIF files to be viewed in a tabular manner and saved as HTML. The application is now a lot more fault tolerant.
- rsMIFeditor_v1_2_msi.zip. Fixed a number of bugs and removed some flaws in the example MIFs
- rsMIFeditor_v1_1_msi.zip. Fixed a problem with some file path errors
- rsMIFeditor_v1_0_msi.zip. The first release of rsMIFeditor. Please note that the later installs for rsMIFeditor will NOT overwrite v1.0, you must uninstall v1.0 using the v1.0 msi (ideally before installing a later version).
